Bequests

If you choose to support the Institute through a bequest and you already have a Will, you may add a simple codicil to it. A sample codicil appears below. A codicil must be properly signed and have two witnesses. It is important to consult an attorney about a codicil, Will, Living Trust or any other legal document being considered as part of your estate planning.
Planned Giving:
CODICIL TO LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT

“I, ______________________, hereby amend my Last Will and Testament, executed on this ____ day of __________, in the year of ______. I direct that all provisions of that Will remain in effect, but direct in addition that the House Ear Institute, a California non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, shall receive a bequest of a residual percentage of ____% of the estate (or a special designated amount of $_______, or a specific item____________ that based upon current appraisal has an approximate value of $__________), the principal and income of which may be expended at the discretion of the Trustees of House Ear Institute for its general purposes.”

If you elect to make your bequest irrevocable, the Institute will be able to recognize your philanthropy now for your future gift.

Charitable Remainder Trusts and Lead Trusts are two additional options for planned giving.
