RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION
Research Administration at the House Ear Institute (HEI) serves to promote and facilitate the research mission of HEI by instituting policies and procedures as mandated by Federal, State, and private (e.g. Foundations) sponsors for the conduct of HEI research projects and by providing high-quality administrative support to enhance the HEI research environment. Adherence to funding sponsor regulations, particularly those that are Federally mandated, require that Research Administration continuously monitor contracts and grants, human and animal subjects review processes, adherence to privacy of subject/patient health information (HIPAA), intellectual property, and radiation safety, laboratory safety and biosafety for compliance. To accomplish its mission within HEI, Research Administration provides contract and grant administration; fiscal research budget development, implementation, and monitoring; human and animal subject administration and training; laboratory safety administration; securing HEI intellectual property and material transfer of HEI intellectual property; coordination of J-1 Visas for training research personnel; coordination and implementation of annual Science Advisory Council (SAC) review; and implementation of research conflict-of-interest and research ethics policies. HEI Research Administrators receive continuous professional education and certification through professional and networking organizations such as Society of Research Administrators (SRA), National Council for University Research Administrators (NCURA), Applied Research Ethics National Association/Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (ARENA/PRM&R), and Association for University Technology Managers (AUTM). |
