The Koch Center for Hearing Restoration
The restoration of hearing is among the most important goals in medical science. The House Research Institute is proud of the exceptional contributions it has made toward that goal. In particular, we cite two prominent breakthroughs in our legacy of hearing restoration: the cochlear implant and the auditory brainstem implant. These devices, both pioneered and developed at the House Research Institute, are true “medical miracles,” allowing the totally deaf to hear.
However, many limitations to their use remain, even as new and improved devices, training and rehabilitation, along with new physiological methods of hearing assessment have the potential to further revolutionize this field. The House Research Institute proposes to continue and expand its leadership role in the development of the cochlear implant and the auditory brainstem implant through the creation of the Koch Center for Hearing Restoration. The House Center for Sensory Regeneration
One of the most important goals for the future of hearing science is the regeneration of cells in the inner ear to replace those that are damaged or inactive, a process that could eliminate the need for hearing aids for many.
This goal has a primary place in our campaign and we have developed a bold, wide-reaching plan to pursue our aim – the creation of the House Center for Sensory Regeneration, which will bring together talented scientists from around the world in the fields essential to regeneration. Working synergistically, these researchers will create opportunities to advance our knowledge and capabilities toward a human model for hearing restoration. More>>

The House Center for Neural Tumor Research
In January 2008 Dr. Marco Giovannini founded the Center for Neural Tumor Research at House Research Institute with a mission to translate research on the cellular and molecular basis of neurofibromatosis type 2-related tumorigenesis into tools relevant for the treatment of the disease. To accomplish this programmatic vision, the members of the Center have begun to develop several research projects and initiatives in close partnership with clinicians at the House Clinic, and with a network of collaborators worldwide that are pivotal for accomplishing and widening the mission of the Center. The Center has attracted an international team of young, enterprising researchers who have been brought to this program by their unique interest in cancer research. To help advance the mission of the Center, Dr. Giovannini has recently been appointed as the Director of the Division of Clinical and Translational Research at the House Research Institute. More>>
