Paul Webster, Ph.D.

Head, Advanced Electron Microscopy & Imaging

 

Paul Webster, Ph.D., is the head of Advanced Electron Microscopy & Imaging at the House Ear Institute (HEI). He has 25 years of international biomedical research experience in academic, applied and basic science with expertise in microbiology, protozology and cell biology. Dr. Webster earned his bachelor’s degree in science at Sheffield University in Yorkshire, England, and his doctorate of science degree at Brunel University in Middlesex, England.

Dr. Webster joined the House Ear Institute after serving as a research scientist in the Department of Cell Biology at the Yale University School of Medicine for several years, where he conducted independent research projects involving microscopy as well as establishing and running the Center for Cell Imaging in the Department of Cell Biology.

At the House Ear Institute, Dr. Webster oversees every aspect of advanced electron microscopy and imaging methods as they relate to cell and molecular biology studies. His current research at HEI includes imaging and study of the pathogens involved in otitis media (middle ear infections), with a particular emphasis on understanding how persistent infections are established.

Dr. Webster is an associate professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Southern California, and is a member of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO), Microscopy Society of America (MSA) and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). He has published more than 80 articles in a number of peer-reviewed journals including Science, Journal of Cell Biology, Cellular Microbiology, Blood and the Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry.
