Neil Segil received his Bachelors degree
from Hampshire College in Amherst,
Massachusetts and his Doctoral degree in
Biochemistry from Columbia University in
New York. Following his graduate
education, Dr. Segil did a postdoctoral
fellowship at Rockefeller University
during which he studied the regulation
of transcription during the cell cycle.
Dr. Segil joined the House Ear Institute
in 1996 as Section Chief for Cell Growth
and Differentiation. He also holds the
position of Research Associate Professor
in the Department of Cell and
Neurobiology at the University of
Southern California, School of Medicine.
Dr. Segil’s HEI research is focused on
development aspects of cell cycle
regulation as they relate to the inner
ear, hearing loss and regeneration.
Dr. Segil has published extensively and
received grants and awards from several
organizations. Most recently, Dr. Segil
and his HEI colleague, Dr. Andy Groves,
received a $1,250,000 grant from the
National Organization for Hearing
Research to study regeneration of the
sensory cells of the inner ear.
