Children's Auditory Research and Evaluation
(CARE) Center

Cochlear implant services are provided using a team approach. Children age 12 months and above can be evaluated for candidacy with an extensive battery of audiologic tests in conjunction with comprehensive examinations by the speech/language pathologist, the psychologist and a surgeon from the House Clinic, with which we are closely associated.

Our audiologists provide mapping or programming of the device and follow-up evaluations. Auditory training and aural rehabilitation therapy are provided by our speech/language pathologist. We maintain a close working relationship with teachers and therapists where the children attend school and receive support services. State of the art implants from all manufacturers are available through our program.

Possible candidates for a cochlear implant are children who:

• Have bilateral severe-to-profound hearing loss

• Are age 12 months and above

• Receive insufficient benefit from hearing aids to support continued auditory/oral growth

A package of information is available for parents considering a cochlear implant for their child. The packet includes information on both devices and articles about cochlear implants. For information on admission policies, insurance, parking and location, please go to General Information.
