Research Associate

The Section on Hereditary Disorders of the Ear is offering a Research Associate position. This individual will be responsible for both mouse and human genetic studies of hearing loss. The individual will also be responsible for administrative responsiblilties in the laboratory.
The successful candidate will have a BS/MS with a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in molecular biology and/or genetics, outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, be detail-oriented yet flexible, be able to work independently, have excellent troubleshooting skills, and excellent presentation skills. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA, RNA and protein extraction and manipulation, PCR, quantitative RT-PCR, electrophoresis, radiolabeling, Northern, Southern and Western blotting, and in situ hybridization, as well as immunohistochemistry. Fluent spoken and written English is essential. Excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team are also essential. Experience in computer based data analysis, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and word processing is highly desirable. The candidate is expected to have experience or willingness to optimize new protocols and conduct some independent troubleshooting. Local applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
The candidate will be working under the direction of Dr. Friedman, but will be expected to demonstrate independent thinking, experimental design and implementation.
