Research Technician

 

A research technician position is immediately available in the Physiology of the Inner Ear Laboratory at the House Research Institute.  Our research focuses on understanding the physical and bio-physiological basis of sensory coding in the inner ear.  We use techniques ranging from whole-cell patch clamp recording to non-invasive physiological and psychophysical measures of auditory function.  Research technician will support the research activities of the laboratory with specific emphasis on the whole-cell patch clamping experiments.  Specific duties will include: preparation of in vitro tissue, making solutions and electrophysiological tools; cell culture; mouse genotyping, some data management and analysis; maintenance of the rodent colony; and general assistance with laboratory management. 

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in biology, engineering or other related fields, preferably with some laboratory experience.  Experience with bench work is desirable but not necessary.  Willingness to learn new skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently are necessary.  Good organizational and communication skills are vital.
