Research Technician (Histotechnician)

The Laboratory of Neural Tumor Research at the House Research Institute (HRI) is dedicated to discovering cancer genes essential for tumor maintenance and translating these basic discoveries into new therapies for neural tumors. Currently, we seek a Histotechnologist to perform the routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides (H&E and IHC) for microscopic evaluation by scientists. Clinical human and mouse tissue-based analysis as a scientific research tool is central to this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
- Ensure proper tissue processing.
- Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
- Perform microtomy of embedded tissue.
- Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining.
- Perform cover slipping of stained slides.
- Prepare solutions and reagents for IHC procedures.
- Perform IHC.
- Set up new IHC protocols.
- Perform filing of blocks and slides.
-Ensure safety and quality control.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshoot minor equipment failures.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
- Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
Job Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Histotechnology or equivalent training and experience.
Work experience: 1 or more years experience as a Histotechnician.
Must be highly motivated, reliable, responsible, well organized and demonstrate an ability to learn. Excellent communication skills are required as well as the ability to work well in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.
Additional information: This is an exciting learning opportunity and excellent training opportunity for those interested in biomedical research or graduate and medical schools. Interest in mouse analysis and general histology as a means to understand molecular mechanisms of disease is a must.
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
